I joined a couple of organizations in the last year or so because they offered discounted rates to people who were taking certification exams (CEN, CCRN) within those specialties.

I've been a nurse for less than two years. I'm not really an active member of any nursing organizations right now.

I have not joined any nursing organizations. I have been a nurse for over 15 years. I have not seen any benefit for paying the expense. jmho

I joined the ANA right after graduation to help me get good professional liability insurance -- and also to have a voice in the national health care political scene.

In subsequent years, I have joined many others -- mostly to get the educational benefits they offer (journals, conference discounts, etc.) and to support their work in establishing practice standards, educational standards, etc.

I've been a nurse for 30 years and have been a member of 3-5 organizations for most of my career. The money I have saved in educational products (conferences, learning modules, journals, etc.) may not be equal to the amount I have spent on organization dues, but it does offset some of the expense.

JMgrn, my NS faculty would be so outraged. LOL. They practically :deadhorse beat it into us, had us write time consuming papers on it (when they should have taught us real life skills and info!! )
Nice to know part of my humble new grad pay won't be deprived fr that!

I belong to the Emergency Nurses Association and the IL Society of Advanced Practice Nurses. I joined ENA about 10 years ago and ISAPN two years ago.
