What kind of work at home jobs are out there for RN?

Nurses Career Support

Published

Hi fellow nurses!

I am a toddler nurse with ~2 yrs under my belt. I have critical care experience, and am looking for a side gig of working at home so I can make a little extra. Anyone know of any suggestions? where you can stay at home (less stressful environment than an ICU). I figure I can do some of that while I am off from the full time job. I have heard of medical transcription BUT heard you need a certificate for that (honestly don't want to pay anything to get side gig).... UNLESS I am wrong here about the medical transcription business...

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

May everyone have a good day at work!

It's not work from home, but private duty is fairly low stress- esp. if you work nights. I work PICU 2 shifts a week, and private duty (vent dependent toddler) 2 nights a week. It's a wonderful balance - I particularly like the fact that my PDN case is only eight hours, and report consists of 'Good morning, he had a great night, bye!" and at 7:01 I am in my car and headed home.

thread moved for best response.....telephone triage?

Telephone triage ? Hmmm haven't thought of that... I don't know if I will be qualified! Let me do research

I don't know of any 'work at home' jobs with decent salaries that would permit simultaneous child care - LOL. Those tele-med (triage, advice line, etc) jobs are carefully monitored, with stringent proficiency & productivity requirements. Medical transcription jobs are paid by the word... unless you are super-fast & accurate, you won't make the cut.

Oops, what I meant by toddler nurse was that I am a fairly new nurse with two years exp. I have no kids so won't need to take care of kids at home....

I have a good friend who does telephone triage from home and loves it. She work for a company called Carenet.

thank you! will look into that... anybody know any companies for medical transcription???

I know several nurses who work for insurance companies doing case managment from home.

Thank you ALL, I have been doing relaxing research on things and haven't come up with anything yet... Will keep posted.
