What does $35.00 hr (blended) mean?

It means they have added everything back into the hourly rate. For example, you will get $30/hr + $5/hr housing for a total of $35/hr. You really have to watch them about this. They can be pretty sneaky. If you are interested in it the best thing to do is call and have THEM break it down for you.

In California, they must pay overtime over 8 hours in a day, so I have seen blended rates being the rate of the first 8 hours plus the four OT hours added together and averaged to give the blended rate. Say if you are making $20/hr base pay, then you make $20/hr for the first 8, then $30/hr for the last 4. Blended rate for this would be $23.33 (if my math is correct).

Only great if you think so. When I did a travel assignment to CA I got 35$ for the first eight, time and one half for the next 4 (52.50), and if I did another four hours I would get double time. I would normally do a 16 hour shift my first and last day on. I normally worked 7p-7a, but would take 3p-7a on day one, and 7p-11a on my last day. Those 16 hour days were worth almost 800 dollars. That wasn't as much as their per-diem people were making. They had a 45+ dollar/hr base rate.

Personally, if you are going to CA, I think your are being screwed by your agency. You may be able to do much better. You need to shop around for a different agency. My "blended rate" for a 12 hour shift would have been a little over 40 dollars an hour.

I worked ER at San Jose Regional, I know the M/S travelers did not make as much.

blending with your evironment as well as a cooperative blending of all salaries that are in and out of your pay scale. (joke).
