I would normally do a 16 hour shift my first and last day on. I normally worked 7p-7a, but would take 3p-7a on day one, and 7p-11a on my last day. Those 16 hour days were worth almost 800 dollars. That wasn't as much as their per-diem people were making. They had a 45+ dollar/hr base rate.
Personally, if you are going to CA, I think your are being screwed by your agency. You may be able to do much better. You need to shop around for a different agency. My "blended rate" for a 12 hour shift would have been a little over 40 dollars an hour.
I worked ER at San Jose Regional, I know the M/S travelers did not make as much.

blending with your evironment as well as a cooperative blending of all salaries that are in and out of your pay scale. (joke).
