What Is Allied Health ?

I am looking at geting an aas in nursing and saw some schools that offerd degrees in allied health. If I go to one of these schools will it lessen my chances to getting in to advanced nursing schools down the road. What is allied health? thank you

Allied health degrees are typically radiology, respiratory therapy, and other non-nursing careers. If you are looking to be a nurse then you would need a nursing degree. An allied health degree would not get in you into an advance nursing degree (at least where I'm located).

An allied health degreewill not even qualify you to take the licensure exam to become a "regular" RN. These are entirely different fields.

Allied healthcare workers include medical assistants, pharmacy technicians, medical technologists, medical lab tachnicians, radiographers, respiratory therapists, surgical technicians, ultrasound technicians, patient care technicians, physical therapy aides, occupational therapy aides, phlebotomists, and other personnel. Some have degrees, whereas others simply have certificates or diplomas. In many cases, the credits will not transfer to a nursing program, especially if the course was taken at a trade school.
