TOO Old??? 41 1/2 years old

by chubbi

Hello everyone,

I am soon to be 42 years old, April 2007. I am interested in becoming a Registered Nurse...Should I forget about that dream because of my age?

Absolutely not...don't give up! Why do you feel your age is a factor in you becoming a nurse?? I am almost done with school and I can tell you that nursing is my dream, it means a lot to me. It is such a rewarding and fulfilling position and if that is how you view a career in nursing as well, nothing should stop you from attaining your goal!

The program I am in consists of such a diverse group of students. Males and females, all races, and probably ranges in ages from 20 - 50. I want to say that there was a woman who graduated the program a few years ago who was in her 60's too.

Good luck to you in whatever you decide to do!!!

Hey Chubbi.......age alone should not be a factor! I'm 48 and a newly licenced LPN, about to start my first job next week. Age alone means nothing! Nursing school, whether PN or RN, is tough and VERY time-consuming, so a lot of support at home, having someone on your side, is a huge help.
Good luck, and GO FOR IT!!!!!!!

You've only just begun! go for it. I started nursing school when I was 50, just graduated in 6/06 and am now an RN and loving every minute of it (just turned 54!)
Best wishes.

My aunt was in her 40s when she got divorced and went to nursing school. She had NEVER worked and had not even graduated from high school.

welcome to the club, i too am 41.5 y/o. hope to grad this summer with a bsn, if i can get thru critical care, my second time around. the oldest in my class is 58 y/o so no, we are not too old. look at it this way, we cann't retire til we are 68, so that gives us, what +25 years to work.

I have never attended collage...I am so intimidated by even going inside the building. I have alot of hangups... Exactly what are the steps to enrolling? Is it a long drawn out procedure?? Then, there's the money issue...I don't have any. LOL

Is it difficult to get financial assistance?
