Nursing School Application

  1. 0
Hi All, I am new here and just applying to nursing school. Part of the application is to write an essay on why you are choosing the particluar school and why you are choosing nursing? Has anyone had to write one of these? How long or short did you make it?

Also, is the exam to get into nursing school really all that difficult? I graduated from college 12 years ago and are looking to start a new career as a nurse.

    Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I can't help with info about the entrance exam because none of the schools that I applied to required one. I can tell you about the essay though.

Some schools have specific questions that they want answered. If this is the case then work those answers into your essay. Otherwise, one essay can be sent to multiple schools. The standard seems to be a roughly 500 word, typed, double-spaced essay. That should be around a page and a half. Whatever you do, take your time to write it. It took me a month to write mine.

    Goodluck, hope this helped.

    Hi,

We sound like we are in the same boat, except for the fact I have never been to college. Last year was my first and I did great. I have 28 hours with a 3.75 GPA. My husband is disabled and my folks are elderly. I became a CNA and worked in a nuring home for a year. Everyone told me to become a RN so here I am. I wrote a one page for my interview, they said it was plenty.
I worked in a Core Lab for 10 years, my heart is sending me in this new field.

I didn't have to write an essay but I did have to take the NET exam. Find out from your school which exam you will have to take and get that study guide. The study guide is worth the money and invest time in it and you should be okay. Some schools even offer bridge classes in math or for the entrance exam itself. Check with your school secretary.

Different schools have different entrance exams. You can go to the Admissions Office and ask about the exam. Usually, in the bookstore or in the nursing department, they offer the preparation book for the test.
    Good luck to you.

    Hello,

I took the NET test cold turkey just to see what it was like. I agree that getting the book is the way to go. I looked on half.com but they did not have one. I will buy it new asap. Math is not my favorite subject. Algebra is fun but basic math %, fractions, etc is hard for me. I don't think like that but practice makes perfect. I will get help. This has been the coolest August ever, so nice.

    Thanks for your reply, Denise
