Non-clinical job wanted

Nurses Career Support

Specializes in telemetry, cardiopulmonary stepdown, LTC. Hospice.

Okay, I know others have posted this before, but I'm not finding the information I need so far. I'm an RN in Ohio, am 40 years old, with 1.5 years experience in both telemetry and critical care cardiopulmonary stepdown. I have recently begun to work part time in a wound care center and really enjoy that very much (M-F no holiday or weekend work hours, much less stress). I find that I have taken to doing the wound care really well, and I have applied for a full-time position but the whole thing is caught up in a some kind of downsizing and politics at the hospital. In short, I don't know if the job I applied for is going to come through.

I live an hour away from the hospital I work at, and I have to work there for another year and a half in order to get my tuition for nursing school forgiven. If I leave, I'm going to have to arrange payments or something, I guess. But if I count when I get up and start driving, my work days are 16 hours. This is wearing pretty thin, plus I find that my personality doesn't really want all the drama and patients circling the drain. I would like a lot more calm environment (again, I sure wish that wound care position would come through), with regular hours and no weekends or holidays. I make 22.44 an hour at this time, but I could lose a little and have it be okay.

My interests are in art (I have a graphic design degree from my "past life"...meaning before nursing), I am extremely good with writing, detail oriented (but do not like to be drowned in details and variables), computer-smart, and take my work very seriously.

So, any thoughts as to what sort of non-clinical nursing job I could search for? I currently have an ASN.

Thanks much...

Specializes in post-op.

Well this suggestion isnt non-clinical-but what about home care. You would have regualr hours. You said you like doing the wound care clinic. Home Care is 1 on 1 with the patient. There isnt a whole lot of work drama cause you are on your own for the most part. Sounds like it would be a good fit for you!

Teaching clinicals at a vocational school.

MDS in a nursing home.

I hope the wc gig comes through. I would find that fascinating.
