new job for a month and already not happy

Hello everyone,

I was wanting to know if anyone could offer any advice in handling this issue. I have been working on a step-down/acute care floor specializing in Cardiacthoracic and Vascular surgery. In the past month (only working there for a month) I do not like the floor. Also, I am a new grad RN with LPN experience of 3 years, which included a long run on a general medicine floor. I am remembering all the reasons I left floor nursing. I am already dreading going to work. What would you all do? I am going to talk to my nurse residency coordinator about finding a suitable place for me to work. This floor, I was very excited to be a part of...now I am just not into it. I spoke with my preceptor and told him I didn't think I would be there after a year, it's just not for me. I have had three people in the last week come up to me and ask how long I was planning on staying, because I didn't belong there. This was my epiphany. Not that I am basing any of my decisions based on the opinions of others. In my RN program...I always thrived in my ICU rotations. Any advice or wisdom would be well received.

Thank you all in advance!

Do you really think a month is long enough? You have only just begun working in this unit. The hiring manager obviously thought you were worth the investment even though you are a new grad.

Sounds like to me - that the other staff aren't exactly welcoming if they are already asking when you are going to leave. Could this be the issue?

Give yourself some time to become more comfortable and develop your skills & knowledge. If nothing else, prove that you can be just as good (if not better) than the resident 'grumps' you are working with.

Trust me - the ICU experience for a student tends to be completely different than for a newly hired nurse. I think you'll find that the grass may look greener - but only because it's over the septic tank

Yeah, I agree, why not give it little more time. Sometimes, it takes a while to get that sense of feeling that you're looking for. If just in case, it did not work out well, then you can just quit it.

That seems like a strange comment to get from anyone much less from three different people! Can you give any more insight there?
