new grad: TICU or Med-Surge? (same hospital)

Unfortunately, the new grad program for TICU doesn't start until February, and I'm pretty much in need of a job by the end of this month. I really like TICU, and I know that I will learn a lot there. However, there is also a Med-Surge training for new grad...it is all year. I am juggling between two ideas: do a non-nursing related job and apply for the new grad program at TICU OR start working in Med-surge. If there's a way I could do a per diem work, it would be wonderful; I don't think that's really an option for new graduate nurses though, and I also wouldn't feel comfortable working per diem as a new grad nurse anyway. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
