New Grad Job Blues

Hi Everyone,
I need some advice please. I recently became and RN about a month ago and I am having trouble finding a job as a new graduate nurse in NYC. I have experience as an LPN for one year in LTC, but unfortunately that experience is not giving me an edge in landing a job. I would like some advice as to how I can sell my self in applying for a position and on an interview. Also, is there anyone else out there having a hard time finding a nursing position. The NYC job market for nursing is really difficult right now, but I will continue to remain optimistic.

Thanks for Your Time!
Tranquillove

I'm in the same positions as you. I see this post is from November. Have you been able to find anything yet?

I am also currently looking for a RN position!
I am very ashamed of not working as of yet....
I have exhausted all my contacts and haven't gotten a nibble from anyone.
Does anyone have a solution that worked for them?
If I appear in person, they tell me to apply online....

Hi. I graduated last May, 2008, passed the NCLEX in September 2008 and I STILL haven't been able to get a job yet either. It's so frustrating. I did go one one interview in October but was told that they'd call me when a position opened up. I've applied in NYC and all over Long Island but apparently there's a hiring freeze due to the economy or lack of funds for hospitals. I'm glad i'm not the only one in this situation but it is very disappointing b/c all I want to do is start my career. I just keep on applying and I go to all the nursing fairs available. I'm even going to an open house for a hospital that only wants experienced RN's but i'm going anyway..you never know.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. Another month or two of nothing and I'll end up living on the street. Oh hey, at least I'm an RN! People will look up to me when I beg for quarters...
