Need help looking for a job in New York.

Hi there,

I have just moved New York from the UK. I am looking for a job in New York. Initially, I was looking for a travel nurse job but I was told that I could not do it as I never worked in the US, although I have years of experience in other countries. Is this a general rule or is it up to the agency? Anyone out there could give me some advice on this matter or any advice about job seeking in NY would be really appreciated.
