Nurses Career Support

Published

Hello my fellow nurses. So I've worked as a new RN for almost 2 years now. I love the unit I work on and what I do, however, I have been working night shift and because our low staffing on nights, I work every 3rd weekend. The schedule itself has really taken it's toll. I might also add that we moved a year into working at my current hospital and have been committing about an hour for a year. I'll be honest, I know as a nurse we have great convinces like 3 12 hour shifts, 4 days off, etc, but I'm not so thrilled about working weekends all of the time and night shift is about to kick my butt in the sleeping department. I was offered a job in a clinic that is days only, no weekends, no nights, no holidays (ahh bliss) however, I would work 5 days a week. The clinic is still associated with the hospital I work for so everything transfers over, but I still have to commute. They are actually moving to 4 10 hour shifts in the fall (yay). So there are a lot of perks, but now I'd be comutting 5 days a week until we changed, loosing about 10 hours a week in commute time. People have told me clinic life is not as stressful, and while you lose your 4 days off, you don't work weekends or holidays or nights and have a normal work life. What are your thoughts on this? Are there any nurses out there that have gone through this and what did you think?
