Job change before a year experience?

Nurses Career Support

I am wondering if anyone has knowledge or experience with changing jobs prior to having a full year under your belt. I currently work at a pediatric hospital where I have been for 7 months. I work nights. The acuity of our patient population coupled with the hours has gradually dug into me in such a way that I really dread going into work each night. I am considering going to a smaller facility with just a pediatric floor (where the acuity would be lower), or switching out of bedside nursing completely.

I do not have any qualms about getting out of the hospital setting, but my options are limited due to only having an ADN at the moment. Do most facilities strictly require 1 year, or do they often make decisions on a case-by-case basis? My long-term plan is to eventually get my MSN, so I doubt that my future career path will include working at the bedside...yet it is too early to tell. I would hate to burn those bridges now and never be able to go back if things don't work out that way.

Does anyone have personal experience with this?
