Is Military After BSN a Good Idea

Nurses Career Support

I am getting ready to start the BSN program for nursing and am trying to decide where exactly I want to go. The military has always called to me and I wanted to know if anyone knew if it was a good or possible path to join the military after getting my BSN. I would appreciate any advice or wisdom. Thanks.

It really depends on what your goals and expectations are. Some people go in and stay forever, some get out after their initial contract is up and never return. Regardless of your motivation, however, these days, military nursing is no cake walk.

If you are planning for an advanced degree that g.i bill would sure come in handy. Also I think with a bachelors degree you would be able to go in as an officer. If you are on the young side this might be a good option to consider.

Specializes in ER/Tele, Med-Surg, Faculty, Urgent Care.

Try posting or searching in the Government/Military forum, yellow toolbar under specialties. BSN is required, from recent posts it seems to be very competitive.

Specializes in LTC, SNF, Rehab, Hospice.

You would join as an officer.
