Default My friend is a Certified 1st assist
She works at a pretty good hospital. She likes it and says that she has never been treated bad by the doctors, however she said she has seen the doctors treat some of the surg techs not so good. She said that before she became 1st assist that sometimes she would get grief from the Dr's but you have to just give it right back to them. My sis in law is in school now to become a surg tech and is worried about the same thing. My friend told her that almost always anyone with a type A personality will make it. I personally don't know what that means but my sis in law obviously liked that answer. Good Luck

Go to the section for OR nurses and do a search for past posts. There have been many on the question and I am sure you'll have an answer.

I have been a surgical tech for 15 years, am now a nurse. My advice-become a nurse, and then a certified first assistant, or go to PA school and become a surgical PA. I know that's pretty short advice, but it's the best advice I can give you.

I never got any grief from Docs, because I was able to remember what they wanted before they knew that they wanted it. I also was quiet, but not mousy, and was able to run a room for the doc...
