Information about a career in nicu nursing??

Hi, i'm new to this forum so all the info i get is greatly appreciated...
I really would like to persue a career in the nicu. My daughter who is 2 1/2 now was in there for about 6 weeks when she was born and ever since then i've thought about it. I am a high school grad. and I need to know what i need to do to get started?! I live in Michigan and i would like to know exactly what is required. Where can i find this out, or if anyone out there knows please help??!!

You need to get your RN before you can consider anything else.
Depending on where you live in MI, there are quite a few nursing schools, but be aware that most have waiting list.

I would start with that, there is no other training that you can begin earlier.
You also may wish to try to shadow a nurse in the NICU for a day or two because things are quite different when you are looking from the other side.

Thanks for that info, but can i go from rn to working in the nicu or do i have to have more schooling??

The hospital that hires you will do the training. You won't be able to get it anywhere else.

Oh, ok... that makes sense.
Also, if i just go for my associates and then take the state test, can i go right into a hospital?? or do i absolutely have to have a bachelors or masters in nursing before i can??

You need an RN. period. Then it is up to the facility as to what they will actually require. Some will hire with an ADN, and others will want the BSN.
