I am a new student that wants to be a nurse

Iam Starting Patient Care assistant training at Maric College here in San Diego. But I saw that I would be working in retirement homes and jobs that i dont think would make me want to stay there.
I want to help patients and make people feel better when they go to the hostpital or clinic.

I dont know any one in the nursing field , and Iam the only one in my family going for this. is there any one that can give me any suggestions. I dont want to throw my self to a field that is not the right one i want .

Perhaps you should consider a medical assistant program where you get administrative and clinical skills and knowledge. Most medical assistants work in physician's offices. If you find that this doesn't work, research health information management. Check out the occupational outlook handbook. Best wishes.

First let me congratulate you on wanting a career a nursing.

If you live in the San Diego area it would be a good idea to see if they are hiring at the VA hospital.

If you can get a job there and work for about a year you will qualify for some of their scholarships.

I don't know what they are called but I know there is one where they will pay you, pay your education and pay for someone to take you place while you are in school. I think you do have to work during breaks but you get paid when you are in school as well...I think you will owe them a few years after that but you will already have a free education and your first job as an RN.

That's something you should definitely look into. Google their website.

Good luck
