Perhaps you should consider a medical assistant program where you get administrative and clinical skills and knowledge. Most medical assistants work in physician's offices. First let me congratulate you on wanting a career a nursing.

If you live in the San Diego area it would be a good idea to see if they are hiring at the VA hospital.

If you can get a job there and work for about a year you will qualify for some of their scholarships.

I don't know what they are called but I know there is one where they will pay you, pay your education and pay for someone to take you place while you are in school. I think you do have to work during breaks but you get paid when you are in school as well...I think you will owe them a few years after that but you will already have a free education and your first job as an RN.
