HOBET EXAM

Nurses Career Support

Published

I recently took the HOBET entrance exam for Baptist College Health Sceinces. I passed the reading but flunked the math. I am going to take it over, but I guess I need some motivation or encouraging words.

Hey coko72,

Did you ever take the HOBET exam over? If so, how did you do? Although, I am sure you passed. And since I plan to take it next week, can you give me any tips on what to study?

I did take it over and I passed:yeah: I just went back to the basis as far as math. Fractions, percentages, decimals, place value, etc. I got a 67 on the math and a 83 on the reading. I increased in math by 20% and 20% in reading. You can take it twice so if you don't pass the first time (praying that you will) The test doesn't change and I know you will do better the second time. Are you enrolling for the fall? I need to recruit study buddies in advance:)

Congratulations, coko72! And now for the bad news...I just found out that not many of my credits will transfer to Baptist. That means that I would have to start as a freshman and take most of my pre-reqs over. Not gonna happen! I already have a BBA and it would be too expensive. So, I have decided to go to Southwest and then transfer to Baptist for their RN-BSN program. And it will be a lot cheaper. Wish we could have been study buddies, but maybe we will meet in the future. Anyway, good luck and stay focused no matter what!

Thanks Moonchild29 I will graduate from Southwest this May. I was receive a degree in business. I hope my english and statistic credits will transfer over. Have you checked the requirements and deadlines for Southwest? Keep me posted we will have to encourage each other!!!!

The requirements for Southwest are as follows: a 2.5 on all college work completed (since have some college), earn a score of 100 or higher on the NLN pre-entrance exam, and a letter describing your desire to enter the Nursing program. These are the basic requirements. But you also have to take Microbiology, A&P I and A&P II. Your grades in these courses plus your NLN score will determine if you are accepted. Southwests requirements are a little strict compared to Baptist. As far as deadlines, you can apply February 1st and October 15th each year. I think I may have to pay for my classes at Southwest. I wish I knew where I could get a good scholarship or tuition deferment through Baptist hospital. I need it more than anyone would know. Due to student loans I am already paying off, I can't afford to pay for college, childcare, a mortgage, etc. Let me know if you know of any good scholarships, grants, or any other programs that help with tuition. I assume you have already enrolled at Baptist for the Fall? Baptist is a good school and the best way to get your BSN quickly. I am so happy for you! If you need encouragement, you can count on me.

RNewbie, do you know of anyone who received the tuition deferment from Baptist hospital? Any tips on how to increase my chances?

Moonchild29 I appreciate it. A professor once advised me to go to the library to look up scholarships he sais it is a lot of them out there. Yeah Southwest is strict.
