Help with relocating to either NYC (HHC / NSLIJ) or VA

Hi!

I have one year experience in behavioral health after graduating last year from BSN program. I am now trying to relocate BACK HOME to the NYC area and have filled out numerous online applications to HHC, NSLIJ systems and other hospitals in the area as well to VA Beach area hospitals (Sentara, Bon-Secours).

I received a call last night while working at 6pm from Coney Island Hospital (HHC). I returned the call this morning and the office told me that tomorrow morning was the only interview day for the 2 positions in behavioral health available. She also told me it is very rare for someone outside of Brooklyn to be considered for positions in the hospital. Also told me they have received (I'm pretty sure she stated this...I'm shocked too) over 138 applications for the 2 positions. She was very nice and told me to keep checking their website and keep applying to different hospitals in the area.

D/t differences in scheduling and traveling concerns, I had to turn down an interview for tomorrow morning. This is going to be hard .

Is this usual for NYC? Should I expect to receive 'next-day interview' calls or is this individual to each hospital? I need time to schedule interviews being that I am far away so I really hope to hear from someone.

Also I have a question about VA Beach area- should I apply for a VA nursing license or keep applying to positions with my NY license? I haven't received any interview/job calls from the VA area yet. Any advice appreciated. Thanks!
