Help Opening Ambulatory Chemotherapy Clinc

Nurses Career Support

Published

Specializes in ER.

I am hoping someone will read this and will be able to help me. I am an RN responsible for assisting a physician in opening his oncology practice. I wasn't supposed to be however the other nurse resigned her application due to personal reasons. In any event, I am in a dilemna. I need as much information as one can give. This office is BRAND NEW! nothing in place except the companies policy and procedures (no oncology specific) I need:

nurse's notes/phsical assessment

chemo flow sheets

oncology policy & procedure

supplies needed to administer various chemotherapy drugs (don't know what they will be yet--but don't want to be caught without availaible supplies)

Emergency standard protocol for chemo patients

I will be mixing chemo as well and administering it.

I think you get the picture. I need everything. I am a nurse with an ER background (I can handle the situation if it arises, but just don't know common CA patients situation at the top of my head). There was an OCN that was going to be hired and she was going to be responsible for this but.....that didn't happen...and now it is me. I did take a chemo/biotherapy course...however I have only orientated by administering a few chemo drugs at another hospital..never mixed. This is a clinic setting and totally different (the pharmacy mixed the drugs at the hospital)

anyone willing to help me or direct me in the way of resources will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
