Help on choosing a nursing school with no experience

Nurses Career Support

Published

How much does previous experience help when entering nursing school? I have all my pre reqs done all A's and high teas test scores. I already have my associates degree with enough units to transfer so I have my choice of doing a BSN program or an ADN program. I want my BSN so that I may later move up to a masters easily, but i fear going to a university and spending so much with little hospital experience could result in failing to reach my dreams, and since this is my second career I know how hard it is to start something else all over again. I know nursing is where i want to be, I love the medical atmosphere and I have an innate need to help people, the problem is that i have a hard time with vommit and oral secreations in general. Bodies and blood im fine with, and the emotional part i beleive i can handle too, but im trying to decide if i should get over those fears b4 nursing school or even go to an ADN so its low risk, or just shoot for the BSN and get over them there.

Do many people enter nursing school with no experience? Are the schools structured to start a beginner off?

Would it be more beneficial for me to try and land a job as an emt or cna and try to over come my fears there? Or is that a waste of time and i should just overcome my fears in a BSN program and get my degree years earlier?

I can be in the spring class at my local BSN university, but im hesitant because of my lack of experience and fears..... Any help is appreciated, i respect all you nurses and hope to join the ranks in a few years:)
