Help! advice or any suggestion about my nursing career will be appreciate.

by Rose009

Hello everyone, first let me introduce myself and say that i am a new member here, my name is rose and i am a current nursing student(or hopefully still is lol). i found this site while surfing the net and thought i'd join.

Okay my story is that i been in school for the last four years(this year is my 4th), been trying to get into the RN program at my area and i thought it was taking too long so i went to a different school and tried getting into their LNP and fortunately for me, i got in this fall, it went great and i tried my best but i made a boo boo and not sure what the hear of the program final decision is . i am looking at my option here, i want to try and do medical assistance or phlebotomy. does anyone know as either one of these job, what to expect? how are they and what do you do as MA?

thanks in advance.

If you want to be an MA go into it with your eyes wide open. You will get NO credits that can be used for an RN program. The only place that uses MA are doctors offices and the average pay is in the range of $10-15. You should call some local offices and find out the pay scale for the area you are in. MA's work under the license of the doctor, they take vitals, do simple labs tests, blood draws and vaccinations. They also do filing and billing in the office.

Hi, Rose009, and welcome to allnurses!

First of all, I wouldn't give up on getting into an RN school. Only you know what you did at the LPN program. Learn from your boo boo and move on. I wouldn't disclose that you were in an LPN program if you get an interview to get into an RN program. Just start anew and move on.

Here is information on medical assisting and phlebotomy:May I suggest another career that is in the business end of healthcare and will utilize your prerequisites: health information management or medical coding, but do them through an accredited college program. Don't take them through a vocational school or a home study course.
