Ineed some advice

I've posted here before and the advice is very valuable to me here.

I have a degree in business mgmg. However, I am looking to leave the IT world.

MY ultimate goal is to get a job that is a state or gov't job ( I love the benefits and retirement pension as well..these are my main reasons)

However, I know nursing has a shortage, and I was wondering if anyone here has a state job as a nurse?

My aunt works as an LPN for the state and loves it (although you can make more in an hospital)

I plan to to get into higher ed and teach nursing

I know most jobs require a MSN in nursing.

I thought that I could get my RN (either BSN or ADN..I know I could have a better chance with the ADN getting accepted...than a BSn.. then I thought I could work on my MSN)

Are these goals out of stretch ? I am in my mid 20s and I cant see myself working years and years and then retire at an old age...)

Specializes in Hospice, Med/Surg, ICU, ER.

Your goals are NOT out of reach. However, it is time to buckle down and get after it.

There are numerous jobs at all levels of government for nurses: county and state health departments; penal facilities, schools, the VA.... the lest is nearly endless.

As to teaching, you don't HAVE to have an MSN for all teaching jobs; but the best paid/most desireable do require it.

I am 38 and am in the midst of an LPN program. As soon as I am done with that, I'm going to bridge to ADN, then BSN, then MSN, then CCNP and maybe add EMT-P on top of it all. I probably wont be totally done with school until my mid-to-late 40's!

If you have the drive and determination, you can achieve your goals.

Best of luck.
