EMT care for children

I know this isn't a nursing career, but I'm waiting for placement in the maricopa nursing program and I want to become an EMT basic while waiting. I have one problem. I'm afraid of caring for a child and I know as an EMT you don't know what is going to happen next. I'm a new mom and the one thing I can't handle is sick children. How do nurses/EMT's cope with this? I don't think I will ever get over it so should I pass up being an EMT? I know if push comes to shove I can care for peds but at the expense of how I feel psychologically. I know that if I worked in pediatrics I would drive home from work crying every day. I think I would make a good EMT though since I work really well under pressure. I'd like to know any thoughts on my situation.
