Considering Per Diem/PRN Nursing

I'm an RN with five years experience and have worked in med/surg and long term care. I am seriously considering working per diem at a hospital and a long term care facility simultaneously. I do not need benefits at this time as I am covered under my husband's policy. Per diem positions appeal to me since the hourly rate is higher and there is the potential for more flexibility. I don't mind working second shift or picking up weekend shifts. I am a little nervous that there is no guarantee of a set number of shifts per week, but I think with some organization and planning ahead I can work enough shifts per month to make the bills. Just wondered if anyone has any advice on this topic.

Thanks!

If your flexible then you'll probably meet your hours. For instance if you're canceled one day, you can say "put me on for tomorrow, or wherever you're short" and you get your hours. Here in Florida it's seasonal, with winter being busier than summer. Good luck!
