clothes make the man?

What do you guys wear on your interviews? What are people telling you to expect? The vibe I am getting is that business casual is the norm, but I hear people show up in jeans and torn tee-shirts and still get the job. A suit seems like overkill and I really don’t want to buy a suit just to interview since I will certainly never wear it again.
