I recently left a clinical RN position due to office politics and an inappropriate description of what my job duties were. I was told that I would have patient care requirements 1/3 of the time it was closer to 1/30th. On top of that the manager at the facility had now medical background just managerial. Also, an LVN was given the title of assistant lead and felt she had the authority to make nursing diagnosis which are out of her scope of practice. Ultimately, this made me apathetic to the clinic job so I found a position back on a hospital unit in Oncology. I started yesterday. Needless to say the clinic reposted this position as an advice nurse which is really all it was. I am extremely happy to have moved on as I didn't put myself through a BSN program to just sit at a computer terminal. I will never put my self in a position to work under a non-nurse manager again. I wonder if any other RN's or LVN's for that matter have experienced similar issues with management and positions which didn't match the description.

Oh gosh, this is such a frequent occurrence in ambulatory care.... non-clinical people simply don't have a clue about nursing scope of practice issues. However, as a 'mandatory reporter', you are obligated to report non-compliance with your nurse practice act.

It's great that you've moved on to a better situation, but you are professionally & legally obligated to report the LVN who is violating his/her scope of practice. I don't know about Cali, but here in TX, if you have first-hand knowledge like this and don't report... you are also guilty of 'unprofessional conduct' and could be sanctioned by the BON.
