Career Change - nursing

Nurses Career Support

Published

Hi! New here. I have a quick question for experienced and recently entered nurses (in the workforce). I am debating a career change into the nursing field (fell in love with it when I volunteered in the hospital!). I have been military for about 15 years. I will remain in the reserves, but with having two little ones, my husband and I have been discussing one of continuing in the service. Since I wanted to head back for my second bachelors in nursing (previous bs in psych), I have a personal question about my future eligilbily I wanted your feedback on. In 2006, I got a DUI. Regardless of the details (I wasn't even driving) - I made a mistake that has humbled me. My question is: will this career move not allow for that type of mistake? I haven't had any thing else on my record and I have been making sure to give back to the community in everything I do. Thanks for your thoughts.

Specializes in Neuro ICU/Trauma/Emergency.

Depends on the school you are entering, the facility you're doing clinical rotation with, your state BON, and your employer. You have a lot of people who will have a hand in your decision. You may make it beyond one and fail with the other.

Specializes in L&D, infusion, urology.

Check with the board in NY. There will be background checks for any position and for entering school, so you may want to make a few calls and see what the standards are in your area. Call some HR departments.
