BMCC Admissions - I didn't get in!

I applied for the RN program at BMCC (Borough of Manhattan Community College) and didn't get in. I have asked them why but am still waiting to hear. I have a first degree (BA in Psychology) but it's from overseas and wonder if that isn't looked upon too favorably in the US system.

Can someone give me some tips on how to better position myself to be accepted when I re-apply? I'd go to another university but this is the only affordable school in my area.
