Background check gets me majorly annoy

I am going through let say waiting to have my background check completed for a hospital job. Well, here is the thing they keep calling asking me too many questions where they could not verify me at this job and school where I went. I mean I thought these information suppose to be in the database, not randomly calling people or school. I have to personally contacted my former employer this so many years ago job to get them contact info. Okay maybe I am in the wrong, but I never had anyone called me in the past during background check process. Oh, I did inform my employer that I am not yet graduated with my RN/BSN but very soon; however, they (the background check) again called me stated I said I was graduated from this school X but my school said not yet. The point I am trying to make is that it does not matter I have my BSN what matter is that I have my RN licensed from my ADN school. Grrrr....maybe I am just overreacting

this is a little hard to follow but if you said you had graduated from a bsn program and you haven't, that's a red flag for a potential employer. if i were you i'd be grateful that they called you for an explanation and didn't just drop your app in the circular file without another look.

what "database" is it that you think all your information should be in, ready for a potential employer to check, anyway?

I told them that I am not graduated as of yet, but they asked me to list all schools: colleges and universities only and the highest grade. Umm...I listed all of them and here I am. I hope this will be the last phone they made to me.

you could be right about that.

Y'all would not believe what people try to get by with these days. I have worked in collaboration with our HR folks for quite a while, and some of their stories just make my hair stand on end. It is not at all unusual for people to falsify information of all kinds. Sometimes they just out and out lie, but other times they try to use someone else's information/credentials. That's why most licensing boards have pictures on file. And - don't get me started on all the fake, mail-order degrees from diploma mills . . . sheesh. When these people are caught, they have all kinds of excuses; trying to avoid legal judgments/child support; "should" have had that degree but the school treated them unfairly; thought they had graduated because the school never informed them they hadn't; ... my favorite - "no one else ever questioned it before"

Our background checks are conducted by an outside company that specializes in this. The only time they contact anyone in person is when information does not jibe... like the OP described. I understand that most of the time, it is due to typos & clerical errors (wrong digit in SSN or wrong year for graduation, etc)

I know that background checks are a pain, but it's just a necessary evil these days.

I had a call from a background check company yesterday asking for more references because they could not get in touch with the ones I gave. After I asked them few questions, I found out that: They called my nurse manager, she called them back and they was too busy to pick up. They called her back and now she was too busy to pick up. Seriously, do they expect a nurse manager sit around and answer questions for reference. I understand they have a job to do to, but really? What is the chance of you getting on the phone with a nurse manager first try? So I had to give them more references. Well I prefer to inform my references before I give their phones out. I really hate these background check because everyone have their jobs and muptiple phone calls can be annoying.

I'm going through this right now with one of my two references. It is annoying.

I just received a copy of the background check the was done for me prior to my employment. They have dates and times and the names of people they spoke to. It was a little random, as I work a bunch of places as a per diem nurse, and they only checked two. They checked everything from criminal records (of course) social security, traffic violations, even checked my credit! Physicl, drug tests etc... Listen I have nothing to hide and yes they also called me ans said they couldn't verify that I worked a homecare case (I have been working on it 10 years) eventually they got more info and it is done now.

After the story of the nurse that had killed 40 plus patients, amd never got caught for years!! He moved from hosptial to Hosptial it is now mandatory and should be. I do believe after seeing my background check that they could have cleared me for the FBI with the info they have. But in today's world and job market I'm lucky to have found a job in an acute setting .

Yes, you're overreacting. Count yourself lucky that they're still calling and asking you questions. If they are having trouble verifying the info you gave them, the easiest thing for them to do would be to drop you from consideration, as GrnTea noted, and move on to someone who is less of a hassle for them.
