A little intimidated

by Suree

HI there! I'm actually trying to see if I could get back to school. I graduated with a Bachelors in Communication a few years back - but at this point in my life I want to do something worth while ... I really want to go into nursing but I'm very intimidated about the whole thing. I got decent grades in the sciences back in my undergrad but Math was not my best area. Will this give me a very difficult time if I do decide to take nursing.

Hello, Suree, and welcome to allnurses.com

We hope you enjoy the site. And, much good luck with your decisions to go to nursing school. You can do it!!!!

Suree,
You wouldn't be the first math-challenged nurse! You will need to manage some math skills but it is pretty basic and once you know the few formulas that you need, that will be it. Most units encourage or even require that you have doses re-checked by another nurse so you aren't on your own at all. You can totally do this!!

Don't be intimidated...come on in...the water's fine and you'll have lots of support. Good luck!

well chick as far as i acn tell you from what i read up when i was training, they dont always take maths into account if you have good social skills and a caring personality with good abitions to go far the uni's will give you a chance and there are certain hospitals that will train you on the job instead of uni but you still get lots of reading papers to write and exams the same as uni its just a little bit more hands on, hope this info has helped a little bit take care x x x
