07 grad, never worked, Refresher course?

by kri5C

Hi everyone, I graduated in 07, and then had a baby, I haven't worked at all. Now I cant seem to get hired anywhere. I know the gap looks bad, I also took my test a year after graduation, and I am sure that makes it look like I took my test several times to pass. I didnt, I was just on bedrest and busy with a newborn.

Any advice, I need a job, would a refresher course be helpful? And I have no references, I feel like my instructors wont remember me? So I feel silly asking them.

I need help.

Kitty.

Kitty, I was in a similar situation. I had to take some time off after graduation for personal issues. Although not quite as long as you did, but I also took the NCLEX several months after graduation. I passed the first time too. I don't think employers will automatically assume that you took it more than once. Maybe there is a way they can actually find out if someone did though, I'm not sure. But I don't think you should worry about that.
You should maybe think about applying to nursing homes, since it's very difficult to get an entry level job at a hospital w/o experience these days. Maybe it depends on the area. But I've been looking for a while, sent tons of resumes, and still no job in acute care. I am working in a nursing home though. At least it's some kind of experience. I don't know about asking your professors for letters. I don't think it will matter at this point. I was thinking about a refresher course too, but not sure if it would help. I hope you get more answers on this board.
