Which Sydney hospital?

I am in the process of looking at grad positions for 2013 and I read that applicants only receive an interview at their first choice hospital.

I am torn between Sydney Childrens Hospital and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. Are there any nurses out there working at either or have an opinion on which would be best to apply for?

I'm sorry to break it to you both, but you've been put on the waiting list because all 8 facilities you chose on your application do not have any vacancies. As those applicants who were offered positions yesterday have until Oct 16 to accept/decline, there are bound to be vacancies in various facilities, and you may be offered a position at any one of them. I heard second round offers happen in December, but I'm not too sure of this. Please don't lose hope, because some applicants simply apply for new grad and attend their interview but don't intend to do nursing after they've finished their degree, so they decline. Also a word of advice for the private hospitals, make sure you address everything in the selection criteria in your cover letter - they cull dramatically. Please feel free to PM me with any questions about any of the above, or if you'd just like to chat :)

The above poster is certainly correct. A lot of people will receive phone calls/letters offering them jobs, perhaps not even to hospitals on their choice of eight, but a job in NSW Health all the same, after the deadline for acceptance/deferral passes as there are a lot of people who will not accept their offers for various reasons. The private hospitals are in a similar situation in that many people will turn down their offer at the private hospitals for one in a public hospital.

(I did this. I turned down an offer to a Ramsay ICU program to a NSW children's hospital.)

It might even be worth contacting some of the private hospitals (Prince of Wales Private, St. George Private, North Shore Private and many of the smaller privates such as Hunters Hill Private and Karina Private. Jump on the Ramsay and Healthscope websites and simply email the grad contact person. It certainly can't hurt you.)

Imaginations, already onto that. For me personally, I finish mid year, which limits the positions for me a bit. Ramsay's Feb 2013 intake applications have already closed and the August 2013 intake applications don't open until April 2013, but I have emailed the NSW grad coordinator for info on hospitals which will have mid year intakes. For me personally Healthscope is out as they mostly only have Feb intake.

I have also emailed a few of the smaller private hospitals for info on possible programs.
