Welcome to the Forum - General Aussie Chat

World Australia

Published

Having been guilty myself of hijacking threads saying hello and just chatting to my fellow Aussies I thought it might be worthwhile for us to have a thread that is just dedicated to general Aussie chat. We can then discuss issues like the Morris - oops Davis inquiry in Queensland and what it will mean for Q health and for the rest of Australia.

We can talk cricket, sport and anything else that is just us.

Say hello to new members dropping by.

Generally find out what is happening in the rest of the country.

I will make this thread a "sticky" so that it will always be at the top of the forum.

Hi!! And welcome!! Glad to hear you are returning to nursing - scary isn't it?

thanks !!!

Very scary ..but hopefully will be back in full swing in a couple more months . Working in on a joint replacement floor . Hips , knees and shoulders ....the place opens on Mondays , all the patients have been discharged or transferred to another floor or rehab by Friday (Sat at the latest ) , and the floor closes for the weekend. So not a whole lot to learn , and weekends off .

hasn't anyone got something to say?

we've got the keep the aussie forum alive and well, y'know! :)

i mean, if we can lick those poms at cricket, surely we can give the yanks a run for their money in the posting stakes! :)

stop just lurking here people. join in!! help fly the flag for australia! :)

lets see if we can increase the posts in 2007!

cheers............

Hi Grace and all others. Am I allowed to have a whinge? Here goes anyway!

As you might know I did get a job and love it. It's at a boarding school and unfortunately while I get to use my judgement and get on well with the students and staff, I was hoping that I may have got some casual work as well at a hospital near by in order to keep my skills current. Now while 2 out of three isn't bad, I am just scared that should an opportunity come up I'll be too stale to be of any use. The school breaks can be very long and I would just love some additional clinical practice. I have applied on two occasions for part time work but nothing's happening. On a personal note though, I am going to be a gran again next month and again in July. Had a fabulous Christmas and good new year. Ended up jazzying up the table on my front verandah, on New Years Eve it's not perfect but it's all mine. I am going to try putting it on my atavar thingo.

Well as you can see I managed to get table onto atavar. My new year's Eve project. Hope 2007 will be special for all of us. Wishing you all a great, satisfying and fabulous year. May your discoveries be interesting, shifts manageable and any little problems overcome. For me I hope something special will evolve in the field of work and enhance what I already have, to find acceptance in my husband's death and to stay healthy, a bit wealthier and definitely willing to have a go...at anything.:monkeydance:

Hate to suggest it but tell them you will be available for ND - even if it just friday night - or especially over the hols - you are almost guaranteed to get a shift or two if you are willing to work nights.

Actually thinking of making a new thread for the new year - what does every one think?

BTW Grace - the ashes are ours - YAY!!!!

I'll try that Gwenith, after visitors go home. Even night shift can be a help. Actually speaking about your thread I wonder about a thread for the wackiest or bravest thing you've ever done to change your house, car. hair whatever? How you felt about it at the time, did it turn out the way it was meant to? cost, always a factor. I remember at Thursday Island not having a permanent hairdresser as she only got to the Islands sometimes. I had gone from dark to light via the chemists shelf prior to her arrival. I asked for a perm (This is way back in the eighties). The perm came out well but the hairdresser decided to put in some magic silver white to help as my hair had gone a bit brassy and she was a bit too generous. I was purple. I washed it constantly to try and remove it. That afternoon I had library duties and had to wear a scarf. My hair was a cross between a mop and a fluffy mauve bath mat. By this time the perm was feral as well. I was told to take the scarf off by one of the library patrons which I did. "Nothing could look as bad as that scarf!!!" Then later "For God's sake put the bloody thing back on again." It took days before I went out again. The things we do...I haven't done that again!!! The funny thing was the islanders thought it a huge:o joke me trying to go blonde, "Hey you diff'rent colour las' week"

new thread for the new year? .......... great idea gwenith! :) i guess this one's getting a bit long winded and we could do with a newie.

speaking of threads..... did you read in another thread where a poster thought us aussies/australia is stuck in the 80's???!!! i was gobsmacked to read that! i have asked the poster to explain why she/he holds that view. i'm genuinely interested to know why. having done the big trip to the us last year, i came to see just how modern and "with it" oz is! sure, there's some things we're behind in, but those things we can do without. :uhoh3: i found the comment interesting since so many pom's and yanks are dying to come here to live! oh well, each to their own.

and to you lurkers reading this ...................... as leytton hewitt says; come oonnnn! get to it and join us! post here!
