Which Sydney hospital?

I am in the process of looking at grad positions for 2013 and I read that applicants only receive an interview at their first choice hospital.

I am torn between Sydney Childrens Hospital and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. Are there any nurses out there working at either or have an opinion on which would be best to apply for?

Depends what your after. Do you want to work with kids or adults? I too am applying for new grad this year and have most of my preferences sorted. I have heard that RPA has an "old culture", but I have never worked there nor have I done placements there.

Did you go to the kids info night?

Unfortunately I live out of State so I couldn't attend the info night. I'm interested in paediatrics, NICU and women's health so either hospital would be great. I suppose this sounds terrible but with the current nursing grad position shortage I would be happy to get a job anywhere. Which areas are you interested in? Have you had the chance to have placement or attend info nights at many hospitals? :)

Pretty sure I'm going to apply for the SCH. It's where I really want to go.

Thank you for your reply :D

Have you also thought of Royal Hospital for Women. Same campus as SCH and POWH. I work at POWH. The have new grad in womens, newborn care etc.

SCH does not have a NICU as it is attached to RHW. Here is a link to the intake months for RHW http://www.seslhd.health.nsw.gov.au/Nursing_and_Midwifery/Students_And_Graduates/ProgIntakes.asp.

Im leaning towards kids, but also thinking maybe Sydney Hospital or St George. Its a hard choice.

Also, the way the transition program works in NSW, is that you put in one central application where you put your preferences 1-8. The first choice interviews you and you are given a ranking score. Based on the score, you are placed.

If you don't get a place, you are put on an eligibility list and any hospital can contact you and offer you a spot if one comes up. Not sure if that is any hospital in the state or just the ones on your list though. Good luck. Applications open today!

Thank you so much for your reply. I wasn't aware the interview was a scoring system. I thought it was for your first preference and if a place wasn't available then you are placed on a waiting list and might get a second interview. I'm so nervous now. I had a look at the link you sent and it looks like I'm unable to apply for RWH due to intake dates. Good luck to you too! :)

Do you finish mid year? I do as well. Just put int your preferences and give your interview your best shot. Be prepared, eager and interested.

The interviews apparently only go for 15 mins. From their info night they said that there will be 6 questions relating to the selection criteria (ie EEO, OH & S), 1 or 2 case study/scenario questions. Nothing clinical and no maths test at the interview.

For SCH they will be held between 14-16 August.

Great information :) Yeah mid year, it definitely narrows down where we can apply for.

The case study/scenario questions will probably be to test how well we know the ANMC competencies.

Will you apply for POWH?

Good luck!

I will be putting it on my list, probably around 3rd with St George. I have 5 choices and have to find another 3.

I work here as a ward clerk, so it would be nice to go somewhere different.

Ohh ok, yeah a new job in a new hospital would be more exciting and probably offer more opportunities.

Well there open. I wasnt going to do my application after exams, but I just want to do it. Think I have finalized my list of preferences.

Hi everyone.

I'm going to apply to the perioperative program at RPA hospital so I'm wondering whether some of you guys have an idea about what kind of questions the panel are gonna ask in the interview.
