Welcome to the Forum - General Aussie Chat

World Australia

Published

Having been guilty myself of hijacking threads saying hello and just chatting to my fellow Aussies I thought it might be worthwhile for us to have a thread that is just dedicated to general Aussie chat. We can then discuss issues like the Morris - oops Davis inquiry in Queensland and what it will mean for Q health and for the rest of Australia.

We can talk cricket, sport and anything else that is just us.

Say hello to new members dropping by.

Generally find out what is happening in the rest of the country.

I will make this thread a "sticky" so that it will always be at the top of the forum.

G'day BowerBird and WELCOME to Allnurses!

Visit often and join in the discussions, share your thoughts and opinions and knowledge. Everyone has a story to tell and we can be both the student and the teacher! :)

Best Wishes with your future endeavours in the nursing profession.

Hello everyone, I'm new here...both to the forum and nursing. Have just recently started my grad year in Hobart (general medicine and medical specialties ward). I am so glad i found this forum as it has alot of useful information as well as anecdotes about nursing :-)

Hiya!

I'm new too. I'm a maybe-wannabe, not a student, haven't begun the application process, still just testing the waters and trying to find some caring volunteer work to get an idea of whether nursing might be right for me. I've spent the last few days poring over the forums so much that I think I know you all already! Eventually I might decide I've done all the reading I can and actually post with a few queries.

Slightly more off topic: I'm a Leo, 27, I currently live in Cardiff in the UK (Aus citizen, just doing some travel), I have an American boyfriend living in San Francisco, I love cats but I don't consider myself a crazy cat lady... Oh, I LOVE spinach on pizza! I'm a total nerd, I'm obsessed with www.etsy.com and I was born in Auckland and grew up in Perth!

Cheers,

Danielle

Hi, I'm Alex.

I've just started Cert III in Aged Care at TAFE...

Single mum, juggling full time studies, two young children (both boys), school drop offs, daycare drop offs, (and pick ups!) a boyfriend, and two cats.

If I can manage all this then I reckon I can make it as an AIN... ya reckon???

Hi Alex,

Good on you! I did exactly the same a few years ago and it was worth every minute. I've now gone on to uni to be an RN but that's a whole other story! Aged care is so fulfilling and important, and many people don't realise this, unfortunately. Good luck with your studies :yeah:Janis

I'm hoping eventually to go on to study Health Science (Social Science) at uni... Specifically studying the link between quality care (on all levels), socioeconomic status and emotional wellbeing.

I grew up in a nursing household. I don't want to be an RN... I don't know how you do it!!

and thankyou for the welcome Janis :)

LOL Maybe because i didn't grow up in a nursing household- I haven't been scared off yet! It's just something I've always wanted to do but kind of put it off for 20 years. Those areas you mentioned are of particular interest to me, , and there are so many areas to work in besides the hospital setting. I have yet to decide but I have a couple of years to work that out. I definitely want to stick with rural areas, though.
