I'm pretty sure the vast majority of hospitals in Aus do not take new grads into ICU/ED. Most grad certs in critical care require at least one year of nursing experience first. As it should be, IMO.
Actually most of the major hospitals in Sydney do. At rpa it is only in 2nd rotation and you have to interview for them. POWH also takes new grads in ICU and ED, not sure if you have to interview though. st Vincent's also take a new grads in ICU and ED. I knew someone that was in CT ICU in first rotation at St Vinnies. I also know of someone who was doing ED as their first rotation at St Vinnies. POW Private take new grads through ICU. St Vinnies also do specific programs such as ICU and ED for their grads. A friend of mine was going to HDU as a grad in a rural hospital as well. RPA also have a 2 year ICU program.
You can't do a grad certificate in critical care unless you are working in the area and have a certain amount of experience in that same area first.
