Student nurse considering immigration

World Australia

Published

Hi there, I am in my 2nd of a 3 year paediatric nursing degree in the UK and my fiancé and I are thinking of moving out to Australia. My fiancé is a fully qualified plumbing and heating engineer so we know he will be able to get work but I was wondering where I would stand. Is it possible for me to complete my training in Australia? Would I have to start again from the beginning?

We have family in Melbourne but are willing to consider other areas to live. Would love sone advice.

We have 3 children so would ideally like to move to somewhere we can make our forever home :-)

Thanks in advance

It would be best if you finished your degree. For some reason AHPRA register nurses from the UK as RN's even though Australian RN's are general trained, except for midwifery. You will be registered as having restriction to only work in paediatrics, but at least you are registered and will be able to apply for work, even as a new graduate.

On the other hand if you apply to Australian university, to have an Australian BN you will be up for at least 2 years university and perhaps have international fees as you would need to cover all adult courses as well as the indigneous units.

Jobs are diffiicult to obtain anywhere, even for you partner, they may be on the skilled shortage list, but these are very far behind what is in real time, unless he is happy to go remote area somewhere. Panel beaters, painters, motor mechanics are also on the skilled shortage list, but they are a dime and dozen and many, many are out of work and some just give up and go 'to the mines'' So be aware there may be time without work

Though of course must be an improvement on the UK from what has been said by my relatives living over there.

Small businesses are going broke everywhere.
