Nurse prescribing in Australia

Hi

I am a nurse prescriber in the uk. I was wondering if australia recognises the uk nurse prescriber qualification?

Nurses that work in rural and remote areas - and this means quite rural and remote, can prescribed if they have competed a medication course.

You will have to look this up at the AHPRA site which courses that are acredited.

As for your course being recognised...I hope your english course,, has all the information in it so that you will know just what is allowed for an RN to prescribe in rural and remote settings and the legislation for each state regarding drugs in their Australian schedules s1 s2 s3 s4 s5 s6 78 and of course 9 so that you are a safe practitioner by legislation in Australia.

If you have a masters in Nurse Practitioner you will also need to know all of the above as NP''s also have certain schedule of prescriber drugs that they can give in their domain, they however can prescribe in all areas of Australia.

AHPRA would have to assess your course, but you would have to be working in a remote/rural position to use prescribing rights.

Hi ceridwyn

Thanks for your informative reply. It has been a great help. I don't think I would work in rural areas in Australia I live in Scotland and being 30mins from Glasgow is rural enough unlike australia when you are hours away from the big cities.

Thanks

Shug
