Moving to New Zealand

Not a NZer, but spent couple of years in NZ. Both islands are great place to live in but Northland nurses have a higher salary scale from the southland nurses, dont even know whats the big differences in their nursing training as both islands have the similar standard.

Three Northland cities I've been to are

Auckand ........ great, big city but for me I wouldn't like to live. Very busy traffic.

Hamilton .........a great city to live and work, they have a hospital where there are more foreign nurses than the kiwi's :chuckle

Wellington the capital .....great place to live and work as well but too windy.

But you will like the northland, many pommies quiet like living in NZ for its not much a difference to UK except the weather (grey and raining in UK)

i am a british rgn of 15 years with surgical, hdu and community experience, have a long term partner and 3 lovely girls!! we are planning to move to nz later in the year after a long time planning!!!
my qualifications are registered in nz and i have received my practising certificate. we would like to live in northland, after falling in love with the area. any help, advise, or previous experiences in moving and working here would be gratefully appreciated.

i am a community infection control nurse and my husband works for lancashire ambulance service. we are going out there in july for 3 weeks to have a look around :coollook: you seem to be a bit further on with the process than we are. any tips, advice you have regarding the intial stages would be really useful.

have a fabulous time in july, we went out at christmas for a month, we have friends in aukland, and spent a few days there and the rest of the time travelling...

begin the registration process asap for your qualifications, the forms can be downloaded, but it took me a week to complete and organise the ukcc, a solicitor etc., but then 4 months waiting for the registration to come through (although 2 of my referees were slow off the mark!!). then it has been another month for the practising certificate also. i have not started applying for jobs yet, our house is just about to go on the market. we think it will be about august when we hopefully move. the problem we are facing is the question of visas.we dont know whether to apply for residency or a work visa and then residency after 12 months?? the process seems daunting and a question of timing, but i think it may be the work visas. if you have any ideas on the subject i would be grateful. are you gong to use an agency??

my partner is an armed police officer, and nz are not currently recruiting from the uk, so i will be the main breadwinner for a while.

any way enough of my waffle, i would love to hear from you again with any advice ect. thanks sue

I don't know whereabouts you are in the Uk, but there is an exhibition in York @ the Racecourse on the 21st, 22nd & 23rd May 10-4pm each day. Apparently there will be lots of stands for lots of different countries including NZ with lots of info. There will also be a daily seminar called 'Starting a new life in NZ' running @ 11.30am om each of these days.If you would be able to make any of those days, I can let you have some more info, if not, I will gladly pass on any info to you :confused:

There is also a publication called 'Destination NZ 'with comes out each month,

available from Outbound Publishings, again if you are interested, I can give you details etc.

Thanks for the advice regarding registration, I think it sounds like I need to get on with that. Did you visit any hospitals whilst you were out there?

What was you first impressions of NZ?

It would be good to keep in touch. This will be such a big step for us, it's good to talk to someone in the same boat.

great to hear you are reaching your goal susan well done

ive just qualified as a pedatrician and looking to go to nz in the nxt 12 months with my family..im 39 but have been told that should not be a problem

where is the best place to look for nursing jobs in new zealand??
