I never thought it would come to this.
When my left knee began to ache ferociously a few months ago, I thought it was just a remnant of an old injury that I'd sustained back in my early 40s. I'm on my feet a lot, and being neither young nor thin, I suppose I had it...

6:30 a.m. I wake up, roll over, and look at alarm clock. There is absolutely no reason to be up this early, but sleeping habits have always been rough for me.
I had the dream again where I’m at my graduation ceremony. It clings to my mind as I try to roll out of...

Late nights usually accompany me with the television on low as I randomly read through a magazine or book, once I am in my soft pajamas. I fall asleep quicker when I take a few hours to unwind. Then I turn on the fan, close my eyes and cuddle in my bed with warm...

This article presents what nurses have to endure on a daily basis. I just want people to understand that it takes a lot of heart to do our job. Honestly, nurses are a special breed of people.

The bottom line in health care these days is $$$$$$$$$ upper management staff are hired to weed out and improve that bottom line, by any means necessary! They are not interested in 'moral' they are only interested in pleasing the board of directors.

Okay, my fellow nurses…….let me share my story. I only share this, mind you, so there may be a smile upon your face, the next time you are faced with a similar situation, and so you know that we are not alone.
It is only after ten years plus, that I am able to...

Hypoglycemia in newborns, as with adults, can be a medical emergency and in any case needs immediate treatment. At particular risk are newborns whose mothers had gestational diabetes (GDM) or prepregnancy type 1 or type 2 diabetes mellitus. My particular facility has...

-Florence Nightingale, poem “Nursing is an art.”
One hot summer of 2006, I find myself sitting on a cozy arm chair. Somehow, I felt so lonely and empty within. It seemed like I was just observing the clamorous crowd in the 5th floor lobby yet people sitting next to...

Having worked in a country which has socialised medicine I can certainly see the pit falls and the benefits. What I dont understand is the fear behind having socialised medicine In my opinion socialised medicine has more positive benefits than negative benefits.

I fully expect that RN burn out will gain momentum in the next few years due to the increased pressure felt by our nurses. Rn's continue to leave the profession, recruitment is tight and hospitals have to tighten their budgets to reflect the current ecconmical crisis....

It seems hard to believe that another Thanksgiving is here, because like most folks my age, I feel as though they're coming faster and faster as the years go by. But all I have to do is look in the mirror and view the snow field where soft brunette hair used to grow in...
