the day of a typical med/surg nurse.
you crack one eye open as the clock next to your bed starts blaring some song about love, loss, or riches; it’s 5:15am. you entertain the idea of rolling back over and trying to get another 5 minutes of sleep but you know if you...

False guilt sneaks in on the coattails of fear and insecurity. Distinguishing the genuine article (a helpful behavioral motivator) from the counterfeit (a blend of poison and quicksand) can help women to energize themselves and their families to accomplish good things.

Once graduating from nursing school I receive a rude awakening from the "real world". For a few months I was confronted with the difficulties of finding employment as a new graduate nurse. From this experience I learned first hand the power of positive thinking and the value of friends and family. I wanted to share what I learned in order to relate and give hope to new grads while they continue their job search.

Recently I’ve had the misfortune to have an un-invited guest perch onto my doorstep. Who is this you ask? His name is Homey (lovingly short for homeless) and he’s a large grey and white cat. Everyday in the morning, he sits on my doorstep literally screaming his little...

This paper is a chronological review of the events that led me to the decision to become a nurse and the development of my own nursing philosophy. I realized my journey in nursing started at the age of 16 and progressed to my current place as an RN-BSN student at James Madison University (JMU). My main goal as a nurse is to have a positive effect on others through access and education. Experiences in my life have brought me to the awareness that it is my calling and the only profession where I could feel comfortable and humbled in serving others, yet challenged and confident through research and advocacy.

Let's see, where were we last ... oh yes, departing for Basic Officer Leadership Course (BOLC). I drove from Virginia to Jackson, Tennessee on the first day. It was a fabulous drive -- lovely weather and a huge playlist on the iPod. I am a machine when it comes to...

PT, PT ... how I love and hate PT! I just completed my semi-annual Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) during the last week of October, and I was very happy to pass with a decent margin and score. I had been working hard on my sit-ups -- my Achilles heel to be sure! --...
