    World's Greatest Patient Advocate

Feb 12, '12 - As a registered nurse, I have never seen anyone advocate for a patient like this! I was extremely impressed. As nurses we are taught to be advocates for our patients. Sometimes I have seen family be involved and the staff will often view them as "difficult". Maybe we can start to recognize that there are other variables involved; the lack of trust due to a prior incident or maybe a staff member was negligent in his or her duties. We have to be mindful of our responsibility to the patient especially during their stay with us.

Fired After 50, Part I: What It's Like To Be A Statistic

Jul 13, '10 - First in a series about a nurse (me) who finds herself suddenly unemployed at age 51 and learns she is part of an alarming trend of American workers who are losing their jobs at midlife and beyond. This is a story about the new "midlife crisis", the lessons learned during the transition process, and ultimately, starting all over again at a time of life when I'd once hoped I'd get to throttle back and cruise into retirement.
