Whether administering medications or hanging IV drips, nurses must accurately perform dosage calculations. Some excellent online resources are listed here, to help the struggling nursing student.

Traffic was murder.
I sat in my car on Wisconsin Avenue staring at the tower beyond the front fence. It was black, wrought-iron and existed less to keep people out and more to remind the world of the difference in ownership between the sidewalk and the green grass that bordered it. The public sidewalk saw all walks of life, all kinds of dress and all manner of mayhem foot its way over the cracked concrete. A few inches away, the base that received the overwhelming majority of returning casualties from downrange reclined, its sprawling form taking up the lawn and watching the slow crawl of cars up and down the choked boulevard. Beyond the fence, uniforms lined the walks. The madness of DC traffic slowed under the watchful eyes of the MPs when it passed through the main gates.

In the previous article I focused on the events in the old mental health system, a system of containment of those who were different. The article ended with the advent of the “drug culture”. In the 1980’s we decided to have a war on drugs. This war has been lost but the effects of it will last for generations to come. We equated drug use with mental illness and have treated both by incarceration. This article is a call to action to find better ways of dealing with both psychiatric illness and drug addiction.

Dreams change, people grow. There can be satisfaction in letting go and moving on. Circumstances of my life led me to places that I never would have chosen to go on my own. This is my story of how my dream started and then evolved along the way.

On days where there happens to be no trauma, I am released into the wild to work with various other teams. And on this day, I was placed in the pediatric ENT line with a lovely nurse named Myra who is a mother of three beautiful, delightful children and is as soft spoken and withdrawn as you please. So the two of us set out to pick up our second patient of the day which happens to be the perkiest four year old you have ever met.

Nurses work hard, place themselves in perilous situations, and juggle multiple challenges during an average shift. Why do some nurses insist that the pay doesn't matter? Why are other nurses adamant that the pay does matter? I believe that historical factors and gender roles are major contributors to the ways in which we view the issue of compensation.

Is proper hand hygiene possible in all healthcare settings? What about the countless nurses, nursing assistants, home health aides, and volunteers who work in long term care, private duty, home health, and community-based settings? Ensuring good hand hygiene for nurses and other healthcare workers who are employed outside the hospital is a complex problem with no easy resolution.

Countless people who are interested in nursing ask questions such as, “Should I work as a CNA for a few years? Would it be better to become an LPN first? Should I just go straight for the RN?” When it comes to getting an education, the shortest distance between two points is a straight line. However, many people must zigzag and take indirect steps to reach their goals of becoming registered nurses.

Hospitals, nursing homes, home health agencies, hospices, and other types of entities would cease to exist without nurses who function as the backbone of the healthcare system. Nurses make the difference at all stages in the circle of life.

How to become an advanced practice nurse in ten easy steps!
My very different educational path has probably furnished some professor with a new BMW or Lexus. I am not endorsing this route but rather explaining why you should look before you leap…we have to start in...

It's just a Bunionectomy you reassure your family with flippant lightheartedness as you head to surgery. Nothing to worry about and definitely not the end of the world. The nurse skillfully piloting your surgical cart pauses to mention the apocalypse conveniently scheduled at 9:50. You laugh it off. Your surgery is going to start at 9:30. Besides, you quip, wouldn't you want to sleep through the end of the world?

The nightmare is a review care provided to those who suffer mental illness. Some of the past is important to give a hint of why we continue to see mental health care as a nightmare. It is, in part, a history of the care I delivered as a new graduate. Times change but the nightmare continues.

Ok, so this is a vent. I apologize for the length of this post. Please note that this is not meant to be a general statement of my opinion on a whole group of people. Don't flame me. I'm mad and tired and dont have anyone else to tell.

Recently finished UNE online organic I with lab. The following is a review of that course, which I found to be extremely difficult owing to a considerable lack of adequate instruction material. I was largely able to compensate through the use of outside books and materials, such as the organic for dummies, khan academy, and wikipedia, though that should not have been necessary.

As the nursing workforce continues to age, it is imperative that age discrimination becomes a relic of the past. We must retain our older and most expert nurses. Their skills and contributions should be valued and celebrated.
