This is my personal experience with both western and Chinese medicine for the treatment of severe menopausal symptoms. I had excellent results with Premarin but was worried about the side effects so went off of it. I went into a nasty depression and tried acupuncture and Chinese herbs with excellent results.

We as nurses have the ability and responsibility to encourage people to enter the nursing profession which will impact not only their lives, but those of the patients and families they will care for in their nursing careers. Those same people we have recruited may go on to inspire others to become nurses thus promoting nursing for future generations.

EXAMPLE: Pt with tracheostomy on the rehab unit.
0700 – Received pt in bed, resting quietly with eyes closed. Easily aroused to alert and fully oriented state with voice. Client indicates by shaking head that presently he has no needs and no pain or distress....

"Hey LT, can you give a push of dilaudid to Mrs. R?"
I looked up from my charge nurse desk where I sat reviewing my patients' schedules for night shift. It was just before 2100. The float LPN's voice came to me through a preoccupied fog.

I was middle-aged when I decided to become Catholic. My mother was raised in a fundamentalist church -- one of those churches where Sunday services last all day and there’s a lot of (literal) Bible thumping involved. (I’ll never forget the Sunday my uncle Alvin gave...

I don't know if I am alone in the struggle to remember how to feel when bad things happen to other people. I like to be the strong one, the one that can buckle down and get the job done. I am hyper rational and feel that if a tragedy hasn't directly affected me, I have no right to share the grief of a victim's family and friends. But this article is about a weekend at work that shook that theory.

I am sure a lot of you would be surprised to know that the staff at allnurses.com all work full time busy jobs as well as moderate the website. We volunteer our services. In return, we meet wonderful people, learn, and grow from each others knowledge. It is great to be recognized as being part of the greatest networking nursing site in the world.

I work in a medium sized HS in New England and while my population is relatively small, we have had some kids with terrible illnesses. At one point, there was support group that ran for kids who were in school and dealing with chronic illness. These ranged from cancer to bowel issues to progressive muscle deterioration. This group allowed for a safe and trusting environment, and everyone in the group "got' what it was like to be different.

.....is all it takes to find out personal information on a nurse in some states. Since the tragic events in Newtown, Connecticut, both gun control and mental illness have been hot topics, both here and elsewhere. Unfortunately, the focus appears to be zeroing in on the restriction of rights for certain populations, and in the nursing world, our right to privacy is already in serious danger.

I grew up going to be one of several things. One was in medicine. I always felt the need to serve and help the sick, broken and disadvantaged. The need to aide in the healing process. Another choice was always in the missionary field. Here again is that...

Dealing with present-oriented patients can be challenging and frustrating for a myriad of reasons. They often do not consider the future implications of present-day plans and struggle to see the point of preventive care, opting instead to seek treatment for health problems as the symptoms arise. Interacting with present-oriented patients requires some cultural competence on the part of the members of the healthcare team.

Do you ever have one of those days where it seems like you’ve been busy all day....... yet at the end of the day you look around and can’t see that you’ve really accomplished anything?? You wonder what in the world happened to the day. What were you doing all day long? You remember starting several activities..... You know you did something because you are very tired.
