Looking to connect with other Christian nurses

Nurses Spirituality

Published

Hi everyone,

My name is Suzie. I am a registered nurse in Pensacola, Florida. Nursing has been my heart and passion more and sometimes less since the mid 1990's. I have worked in the acute care hospital setting since then. I have a wandering spirit, so I have experience in most areas of adult care.

I expected Jesus Christ as my Savior as a young adult, years before becoming a nurse. Initially, I did not feel "called" into nursing, but soon began to realize my potential to serve as Christ's ambassador to the sick and dying. Although, I have to be honest and say that my feelings regarding my nursing career have not always been "blissful." I have been, like many other nursing colleagues, tapped dry by the realities of our profession. THANKFULLY, I allowed the Lord to refresh my spirit and regained a renewed perspective on our blessed profession and my opportunity to serve.

In 2006, I founded a nursing ministry organization. Since then, I, along with many of my nursing friends, have pursued a variety of activities aimed at encouraging other nurses and serving local and global communities.

I am currently in school pursuing a graduate degree in nursing education at Walden University online. I am enjoying this experience very much as it expanding my knowledge and perspective regarding patient care and nursing professional issues.

I live in Pensacola, Florida with my husband, Michael. We have four grown children and a precious granddaughter.

I am looking forward to connecting with nurses of the Christian faith from around the world.

Blessings!

Suzie

P.S. I also updated my profile and social media info if you are interested.

Blessed to of found this thread! I am a christian nurse. I work in the hospice setting. I adore my job. I work for a Christian organization however I take care of pts of all faiths. I do so to the best of my ability. I dont push my beliefs on others but if asked I will be honest. If I see in someones chart they are of christian faith or if this is shared with me, I will offer to pray for them. I have never been turned down in this sense. My faith shines through in all I do. Without God I dont know how I would be able to fair at my job where I help people die daily. I love working in "Heavens Waiting Room". It is an honor and a privilege to be with pts at the end of life. If anyone knows of any Christian nurse support groups/pages etc please pass them on. I would be interested. I only skimmed through all 58 posts. :) Blessings!

Hi PurpleViolet,

Thanks for stopping by this thread. It is always great to know of other Christian nurses who are walking their careers out through the light of their faith. It is nice to know that you will pray with your Christian patients and when appropriate. I do not know of any support groups for nurses per say. I welcome you to "friend me" in this discussion board. We can also connect that way if you like.

I agree with you when you say that you don't know how you could fair in your job if it were not for your relationship with God. He most definitely is the source of my strength and passion for nursing.

Take care! May God continue to bless your work!

Hello Suzie, I was looking around all nurses for people whom I can connect with as well that believe in Jesus, especially in today's world . I admire your accomplishments and wanted to ask you a question ? I am currently in starting nursing school in the fall and I have struggling to find a balance between studying for school and studying the bible and building a more intimate relationship with Jesus. I asked u this because u have accomplished so much, how do u find the time to really get close to God and do everything else lol ??

Hi,

Wow, this is awesome! I am in the midst of a career change from banking to nursing. I'm only now taking certain pre-reqs and then will apply to an accelerated BSN program. Also, I work full-time and my wife is pregnant with our first. Life can be so busy at times! I wholeheartedly agree with Suzie. By staying in the Word, you will find peace of mind. And just remember that God knows us better than we know ourselves. This verse gets me through so much...

Ephesians 3:20

20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,

I pray that you find comfort in the Word as you go through school.

verse of the day: "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."Matthew 6:19-21 (NIV)

I really like this one and oddly enough was thinking of it yesterday!

Sometimes I want to buy certain things, but can't afford to since I'm a stay at home mom right now. Instead of feeling cheated, I feel blessed to be taking care of my son and following bible principal. :)

Hi friends! I am not a nurse, yet, but just getting ready to start LPN school on the 14th. Prayers are greatly appreciated as I begin this new journey!

I feel so blessed to have God direct me to this thread today...it was just what I needed as I start the RN program at my local technical college in one week! Nursing is not where I saw myself going, and but for the grace and direction of the Lord I would not be where I am today. Healthcare is a great field to serve in, and even through my job as a CNA I have had opportunities to share the love of God with my patients and coworkers when He opens the doors for this to happen. He has definitely called me into evangelism, as well, and it is my dream to serve in either overseas or in an underserved area of the U.S. - but I will go where God leads me as He know best. God bless!

Hello to all, hope everyone is doing well.

I've recently rededicated my life back to doing the will of God by believing in Jesus, and daily resisting this carnal man. It feels beyond awesome to know that if I died today, I would see His face and live amongst other believers for eternity. Its like we're all family, scattered to various parts of the earth, most likely we will never see each other in this life, but when we see each other when we get up there, we'll recognize one another. Im truly excited about Jesus!!!! Okay, 28 y/o female, been an RN for almost 3 years now. Im very much human, I struggle with various issues, but I know that when life gwts me down, its because Ive been carrying the weight of my issues alone instead of giving it to the burden bearer. And yes, I've prayed with and for pta. I allow them to discuss their beliefs, and if Im led to ask if we can pray together, I do. Im not ashamed of what I believe. I believe God has put me as an RN in this seasn for a reason. Im excited about the journey, and where He's taking me.

JesusKeepMe,

Thanks for the uplighting post. It is always thrilling to hear someone so enthusiastically share about their faith in Christ. I can remember when I came into an awareness of who He is and the love He has for us all so, I was so overjoyed and saw life from a completely new perspective. It was as if a new dimension had opened up in my life. Well, really it did. I had my "V-8 moment" as I like to say.

I agree with you. Life is not a cake walk after you become a Christian; we all may still struggle with sin. However, after finding real purpose and meaning through Christ, we can have strength through Him, as well.

Be blessed and continue to walk strongly in your faith!

Glad to see so many fellow believers on here! I joined AN just a few weeks ago. I've been a Christian for 13 years and an RN for almost 11. I was a CNA for five years before that. Right now I'm working in the SICU of a level 1. My hospital has a burn center also, so I'm looking forward to learning those skills either through floating or cross-training. I would love to join the VOMedical when I grow up! :) I'm in a good place to hone the skills I'll need, I guess! I'm not sure what doors God will open; time will tell.

I too don't go around Ray Comfort style, "Do you think you're a good person?" to my pt's ;) but am open about my faith if I'm asked. Sometimes if I think they're open to it I'll offer to pray for or with pt's and families. It's a ministry for me for sure.

A little more about me...I'm 34, married mother of five. My Christian leanings are pretty Reformed (if my SN and avatar pic don't give that away lol). I love to sing and am involved with my church's music ministry. Glad to "meet" all of you!
