How can I spiritually learn this...

Nurses Spirituality

Published

Hey guys.

I am here to share my thoughts. I have been a nurse for 10months now, and waiting for break through where I can feel good again. I work nights, to which I totally blame all my tiredness and zombie life on but as far as nursing I am not sure what it is doing to me, but im frustrated. anyway....

I listen to alot of spiritual mentors like Joel Osteen, Joyce Meyer,T.D Jakes, and Dr Charles Stanley. In the comforts of my own room I receive their message and am dedicated to apply it to my job so it can be better, Praise the Lord, but when I clock him, LITERALLY everything switches. Im boiling up, annoyed, and not even going to gracefully do my job as I said I was hearing my mentors speak.

One thing I heard yesterday was " You have to do what you have to do, where the lord has placed you to be able to pass and be advanced to the next level. If you don't pass the test you'll never pass the class and you;ll keep taking it over and over and over.". Honestly, I pass sometimes by luck, and fail most times by choice and not understanding how to see this experience as just a stepping stone. I felt so empowered hearing it, and made me feel like I can come to work and be able to work without reminding myself how miserable I am, and how I hate this place.

But the feelings were all still there.

I need to spiritually settle, convince and set my mind and heart on the fact that this is trully an ingredient in my life, and not the final dish. How can I learn this.

Help please.

Hi, sometimes you have to look at the bigger picture we are in varies work places and some come with bigger challenges but at the end of the day patients need to be cared for. We should not always focus on how we are feeling, just focus on the patients you are helping.

At the end of the day it's not about us it's about the poor patients who are helpless and looking to us.

Hope that helps.

Thank you and I think I know and understanding that these patients need our help and care. But how is one to fully dedicate themselves to something if they dont feel graceful doing it or connected doing it. Doing things with grace extends the message that you really care, but just simply working to beat the clock is no way to show care, and I am struggling holding my frustrations through by smiling and being compassionate fully when I am not happy in the position I am in.

Thanks for your response.

Much appreciated,

xx

" You have to do what you have to do, where the lord has placed you to be able to pass and be advanced to the next level. If you don't pass the test you'll never pass the class and you'll keep taking it over and over and over.".

I love this quote. I worked in a place that was a challenge to me a few years back. One of the things I did to help me remember to have the right attitude, was to come up with a saying, like the one above, and write the first initial of each word on a post-it note. I put the post-it note in a place where I would see it all the time (at the time, that was on my computer). So for you, you might take this part of the quote: Do what you have to do, where the Lord has placed you. And write out this: DWYHTD, WTLHPY. Only you will know what it means.

I also think you should pray about it: Dear God, help to me to see how I can put my best foot forward today. Pray every day, in the car on the way to work, on your lunch hour, whenever you can.

Try to find one positive thing every day. Even if it is a flower growing outside the building, a smile from a coworker, or maybe just the fact that you got thru the shift and earned some money. You might be surprised how much this one thing helps your spirit.

Finally, are you able to look for another job? One that might be more fulfilling?

I know, I love the quote so much from him. He said it in a demanding forceful way, with so much power that if we really want to see better things in ouir lives, God has placed you where he has for a reason, and you have to do well there, before he can move you to somewhere better, but YOU HAVE TO DO THE WORK.

It's like the toughest truth, because when i go to work, and have the mindset of doing my job gracefully, i leave there feeling great, and feeling like i am closer to getting something better that i want, down the week, and go to work one day angry and just hating the job, and i feel like i am starting all over again, just like a test, when you fail, you take it again or have to make up for it.

I know the hospital field is not my area, sick people make my knees weak, and night shift has flipped my body around. It's tough.

Definitely looking for a breakthrough soon.

Talk of the gods aside, have you considered applying for another unit, or another job, or another shift or another facility?

But, if you do believe in gods, possibly you might consider your intelligence as "a gift from the gods" (most believers seem to see it that way)

and possibly, the gods might rejoice that your own intelligence, telling you, "This is not the unit or shift for me", was finally heeded by you!!!!!!!!!!!!??????????

I am not sure i fully follow your thoughts, but, it seems you are miserable at your job/shift/unit (something about your job causes you to "hate" it)

yet, you seem to think you should stay there, til you ever like the job, to please the gods.(?) as if getting yourself to like nightshift will be passing some type of test of the gods.

But, maybe,

just maybe, the gods are hoping you go find a job you don't hate. Maybe the gods are hoping you do listen to your own common sense

but, that's just a guess, i don't claim to know what the gods want, (and i tend to be slightly suspicious of those who DO claim to know what the gods want or think,)

but, maybe this = "listen to your own brain, your own heart, your own ideas, if they are telling you that you hate nightshift"

Jean Marie" The Gods? lol. I serve Jesus Christ, there are no God's here in my life, just one. and my spirituality doesnt live for what the God wants, thats weird and sounds devilish. anywho. God puts us through things so that we can learn from them, and learn how to trust him. thats what i am experiencing, and thats what i nmeant. but i am not staying here purposely till i like it, cos then what the point of leaving after that, i have applied to other positions, but feel like there must be a fix or improvement in me that might need to happen so that whatever that is will not also carry on with me to the next job.

Thanks for your post tho. :)

Ah, there are 1000s of gods to worship,

and only 1/4 to 1/3 of the planet worships the bible gods.

and yes, there are 3 gods in the bible, each with it's own unique personality, and they speak of each other, and sometimes, directly TO each other.

That's either multiple gods, or early schizophrenia, imo.

Yes, yes, christains all say, "oh, it's just 3 parts of one god!" but, having different names, and different (and sometimes opposite) personalities, and are sometimes simultaneously present at same time, which talk about and to each other, does indicate separate entities.

I have many facets of my own self, yet, none of them speak to each other,(whew, right? ha ha) nor do any of them have their own separate names.

Devilish?

what? nah, i am mere mortal, just being rational, in response to your public appeal for feedback on the job you said that you hate.

i am not entirely certain how "my spirituality doesn't live for the the god wants, that's weird and sounds devilish" equates to being "devilish"(?) as some christians do claim to live to do what the gods want. But, i readily agree, there is a vast difference in how christians interpret the bible, and their gods, and what role the gods play in their life plans.

It is your choice to imagine that suffering is sent by the gods so you can learn lessons. There is zero empirical evidence that gods send suffering, but, one can choose to view suffering as sent by the gods to learn some lesson. I don't see suffering that way, but, you are free to do so. I can learn from mistakes, bad experiences, etc, yet, i do not believe these disasters are sent by gods.

I did misunderstand your original post, as you saying you felt you had to stay there til you learned some lesson, or learned to like the job. (as your post title suggests). sorry for my misunderstanding your post.

Re: your job, yes yes, learning and growing are great,

and almost all new nurses experience this, especially that first year, wow, eh? Whole lotta learning and adjusting goes on!!

mmHmm!

but, it's possible, you could still learn lessons in less horrible environment that you don't "hate", too.

It's possible, your body will never ever adjust to nightshift. It's possible,

the gods are hoping you will decide to move to a healthier shift for you. Not all humans can work nightshift and feel physically or emotionally healthy.

best of luck on your decisions!!

Brilliant! God is good! When you need help or guidance, ask him to stand beside you.

I remember hearing this story (not certain where it comes from) where there was a man who was walking on the beach and he would leave foot prints in the sand. A pair of footprints would be beside his (God's), but when he was having hard times in his life there would only be one set of footprints.

He asked, "Why was there only one set of footprints? Where were you God in my hard times?"

God said, "I was carrying you, this is why there was only one set of footprints."

So the message is, He will carry you when you need it.

It's neat. I have no idea where it comes from.

A good idea, too, is to re-read Jesus's miracles. He is such a loving, wonderful, heavenly, heroic, egalitarian who has saved the entire world and us all!! He won it for us. New life everlasting!! God's son and He said "I am" "The Father and I am one." God IS good!!! God Bless :)

In your prayers, ask for peace. Ask for strength. For an open and loving heart. Get yourself a daily devotion book that is Bible based. Before bed read it, think about it, then attempt to apply it. It takes patience and practice. Get involved in your church. Go to prayer meeting, immerse yourself in a spiritual life outside of your job. Take a deep breath when you are working and say a silent prayer of "God give me strength". See your minister--even if it is once a month for some spiritual counsel. Because you believe in God then you do know that there's a plan in place for you. You will learn and grow to get to that place. And it is not a sin to be frustrated. You just do what you can with the tools that you have to find inner peace. For me, I am not what one would call a classically religious anything--I have many many beliefs that take from multiple religious practices. My religious buffet. But the common theme is having a good heart, good intentions, and kindness.
