Would wearing a sexy nursing outfit to a party disrespect the profession?

Nurses Professionalism

Published

Ok,just want some opinions.

I am Rn,I've been a nurse for 9 years.

But I just want to attend a lingerie party in April.

Do you think it would be sort of disrepecting my profession if I I wore a sexy nurses outfit?

In the back of my mind it might be,but I'm unsure.

Also, could I be reported to the board if someone I know just happens to see me?

Thanks in advance.

Is a nursing outfit really appropriate for a lingerie party is my question. Halloween yes. When I see lingerie party I think slutty teddies, thigh highs with garters and hooker heels. I'd just worry you'd be out of place in a nurse's outfit.

And then nurses wonder why we don't get respect as nurses. This is why people think we spend our time chasing doctors and that we are are flaky blondes and pillow fluffers.

And many think we're another kind of "fluffer."

Seriously! They have the naughty fireman, naughty cop, naughty every profession costume in the costume stores. Does that harm the reputation of all those professions too?!

Gee, I can't imagine any difference between the professions of nursing and firefighting/policing. Oh, except the fact that one is traditionally female. Perhaps that would make a difference in the world full of objectification and double standards?

OP should do what she wants. I wouldn't wear a sexy nurse costume. Nursing has enough trouble without me throwing heat on the fire. I also wouldn't attend a public party in wearing only underwear. But if OP wants to do so, nothing us uptight people here are going to do to change that.

There's no way for us to know, without seeing the costume first. Put it on, snap a pic and upload it here for consideration.

People think that because a LOT of nurses ARE chasing doctors, etc.

When you say a lot of nurses chase doctors you might as well say a lot of nurses have common sense. Is there something wrong with wanting to be with someone smart, educated and that makes good money?!?

Hey, they're free to chase whomever they want to chase. My quibble was with the implication that they aren't doing it.

Anyone seen Sketchers skinny leg scrub pants?

Anyone own a pair? They slim me down, which I why I love them. I paired that with a white mock wrap top,and we all know those show your shape.

But I guess it wasn't professional enough for my supervisor, but everyone else loved it.

I was comfortable in it,but most of all I was proud of myself for losing 50 pounds!

The outfit I'm wearing to the party is a white biketard with a red cross in the middle, white sheer stockings,a nurse hat(of course),and white stilletos.

And a cape.

I was reading about nursing uniforms in the past and didn't even realize nurses wore capes.

I don't know if it is legal is I post the website on which the event is being advertised?

And you should be proud of yourself for losing 50 lbs. How awesome for you!!

I would save the skinny leggings for your time, and not work time.

A great deal of time when people lose a considerable amount of weight, it changes the way one thinks. You do not need to wear skinny pants to have people notice you. But noticing you is not really the goal of working.

IMO attending a lingerie party in a hotel open to the public is unprofessional, regardless of which version of sexy the OP dons. The whole point of lingerie is that it is private.

I am not against dressing sexy and showing off a body one is proud of; but public places require actual clothes. To the OP, congrats on your weight loss!

Personally, I think a nurse wearing a naughty nurse costume on Halloween is lame and completely unimaginative, it only counts as a costume for non nurses. I love Halloween and use the opportunity to dress up as something that I am not.

Yes, there is the buxom "helloooo nurse" stereotype of the pretty young thing who is eye candy for the doctor and might take a temperature or something every now and then. Anyone who has watched TV in the past 50 years is familiar with this stereotype.

But anyone who seriously thinks the wearing of a "naughty nurse" costume to a party will alter anyone's perception of nursing is being a drama queen. Sometimes I seriously wonder if people are so caught up in some imaginary ivory tower world of their own that they lose touch with the real world. In the fake world of high horses and dreamy idealism, the wearing of a naughty nurse costume might make an attendee say "gee I guess nurses really are dumb bunnies."

But in the real world where real people live, all such a costume would provoke is "gee that's funny" or "she's hot". Everyone at the party has been to a hospital and the doctors office. And never once has someone at the party seen a REAL nurse wearing a tight white skirt with a little white cap with a little red cross in a heart on it. Please give the general public some credit for distinguishing between television stereotypes and reality.

Oh, and adults meeting in a hotel room dressed in lingerie isn't called a "lingerie party". It's called an orgy.
