Forgot to renew license

  1. I feel like a complete looser right now. I am currently working full time, working on my FNP right now at UTA, dealing with some family matters and in the last 30 days I let my license become delinquent. I take full responsibility, employer realized it about 30 days into it. I went online, thoroughly read BON site, gathered my CE's paid my fine, sent transcript showing I was in school and now I wait. This is in TEXAS by the way does anyone have any suggestions on how to expedite the process? I have bills to pay. I knew I was taking on a lot of things, this lapse in my renewal is a expensive mistake. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with BON. So frustrated with myself.

Ironically, not feeling like such a gr8nurse2you right now.. oh yeah like not even a nurse even though I have devoted much of my life past and present to the career field...

    Thanks for the read ..

Maybe you can go in person to get the license. Have you called?

    Good luck.

I doubt that there is a way to expedite it. One thing that may cause a problem is the period of time that you worked with a lapsed license. My first memory of this was in a hospital where I was doing clinicals (shortly after fire was invented). The CNO tore into a couple of nurses who had allowed their licenses to lapse, because the hospital can be held liable for allowing unlicensed personnel to work in licensed positions.

Your best course of action is to communicate with your nursing board about what happens next.

I don't know about Texas but in California the BON is under the jurisdiction of the Department of Consumer affairs. They are also understaffed and notoriously slow to process anything. When I had a problem earlier this year I called the DOC and got my license processed with 24 hours. The lady at DOC who helped me said they get a lot of complaints about the BON in our state.

One of my coworkers allowed this to happen - she worked a year with an expired license! Needless to say it became a discipline against her license (but not against her ability to practice). Hopefully that won't happen with you.

That's a tough place to be. It could happen to any of us so hang in there! I've had my license renewed at the last possible minute just so I could keep working--I got a reminder from my workplace. No experience with BON in Texas, but I've paid extra fees to CA before. In short-term, maybe you can get a job on campus that doesn't require a license. Things will work out in the long term.

I waited until the last minute one time and drove to the Board to pay the renewal fee in person. The lady who took care of me told me that the embossed receipt that she gave me, along with my soon to expire license, was my now up to date license until I got the regular one in the mail. This was in CA. Maybe the same goes for your state, but then, you say you mailed it in. Call them and see if you could go in person to get a receipt (if they have processed your paperwork) to use for this purpose.

last year i forgot to renew my license in PA, made attempt to restore my licences and was unable to, I receive a message stating i had to wait until June 2017. Again I forgot and i tried calling to see how to rectify the situation. The woman was everything , but nice and hung up on me. I guess I have to wait until next June.

I guess you need to notify your state senators and Congressmen about the rude woman. She needs to know that she is not a goddess, rather a public servant and she needs to be disciplined.

I know you'd be reluctant to report her, for fear of what she could do to your records, but you should not let her get away with rudeness. She's a petty tyrant and deserves corrective action.
