Can I loose my license over this?

Nurses Professionalism

Published

I'll come straight to the point. I worked at the prison for an agency. I made a med/narc error. My agency pulled me off the case the next day, took my statement ( which I answered truthfully) then sent me for a drug screening. No doubt to check for opiates. There will be no opiates in my system but I do smoke weed periodically. Just my dumb luck I smoked the day before all this drama happened! (as you can guess....I am done with weed)

Can I loose my license over this?

Will this be reported to the Texas BON?

What other jobs can a person who has worked in healthcare since the 90's do?

Thanks!

No you won't lose your license but you will have to self report to your states nurse assistance program. Since it's only thc positive you'll probably only be monitored for 6 months to a year depending on how your state does things. You will be drug tested randomly and required to do daily check ins, probably have to attend a nurse support meeting or possibly AA or NA meetings. There may be other things required of you other than that. Don't worry too much about it, what's done is done and now all you can do is deal with it. just comply with what your supposed to and no disciplinary action will be taken against you.
